The Fender-inspired Beetle!

May 18th, 2012

Are you a bigger music fan or Beetle fan? Can’t decide? Well, it’s your lucky day! Volkswagen has taken their Fender –inspired Beetle from concept car to production vehicle. That’s right! The Volkswagen Beetle based on the legendary Fender guitar is going to be a limited-edition model.

This awesome Beetle was first launched as a concept car at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The model that appeared in Frankfurt looked like a rock star! It had a high-gloss black finish, red-framed windows, leather roof, and chrome exterior finishings. The interior was even more stunning. It had an ‘instrument bar’ as well as a pad on the dash made of the two-tone wood design pattern used on Fender guitars.

It has been rumored that this Volkswagen Beetle could arrive before the end of the year! According to Car and Driver reports, the subwoofer with the vintage Fender grille and the dashtop tube amp that was featured in the model in Frankfurt will not make it to production. However, this model will still amaze you with its unique look and many features. One such instance is the fact that the vehicle earned “car audio system of the year” for its exclusive Fender-developed sound system.

If all of this hasn’t convinced you, check out the car for yourself. It looks pretty rockin’! We can’t wait to see the final product!

October 2013! The 2013 Audi A3 Will be in the U.S.!

May 10th, 2012

October 2013 will be here before we know it! Or at least we hope so! Why you ask? Well for starters, the U.S. is due to receive the 2013 Audi A3 five-door Sportback model as well as a four-door small sedan. October 2013 feels like a long way away, but luckily, we will get a preview of the five-door Sportback model at the Paris Motor Show this October!

It is hard to believe, but the 2013 A3 is better than ever! The new version of the A3 uses the new VW Group MQB architecture. With this new design, the front axle moved slightly forward giving the front passenger increased legroom. In the recent development of the A3, a primary goal has been to lower the overall weight and the new models have dropped over 100 pounds. Because of Audi’s space frame aluminum-steel construction, much of the front end components of the compact segment now consist of aluminum making the A3 much lighter.

Every model is created equal. At least that’s what Audi is saying with the new A3. Practically every option available for the A6, A7 and A8 will now be available on the A3. MMI Touch technology is now integrated onto the top of the mouse-rheostat on the console. All safety and convenience systems will also be incorporated into the MMI system with each of them able to be calibrated separately instead of adopting a single default threshold. The latest pop-up MMI’s screen is just 11 millimeters thick, which is about the width of a smart phone. Speaking of your phone, a cable is no longer needed to connect it to your A3. All you have to do is place your phone in the Audi console phone box and you are good to go!

Audi is taking protecting you and your family one step further. Audi has integrated a front sensor technology to allow the car to halt itself while traveling at slower speeds if it senses an imminent collision. In addition, all onboard connectivity systems now use a QNX proprietary system developed with German group Harman Becker rather than Windows in order to avoid viruses and other security risks.

Audi will surely redefine the compact premium segment with the new A3 and we can’t wait until they do!

How can you beat that?

This car has plenty of V-8 power to go around! The 2012 Audi A8 L has a 372-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 engine that gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Acceleration is so smooth that you’ll be stunned the first time you drive it. The A8 L also has ‘Sport mode’ which takes your driving experience to the next level.

The A8 L‘s cabin is so long and luxurious, you may have to remodel your garage to make the A8 L fit, as it is 208 inches in length! You can imagine what this extra space does to the cabin.  The A8 L comes equipped with a standard power sunroof, power trunk, and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The rear window and rear door windows have power sunshades. The heavy doors also seal themselves shut when small children do not close them properly. The A8 L’s step-in height is fairly low so even the smallest person can climb in and out independently. If safety is first and foremost on your checklist, Audi has you covered. The A8 L has standard all-wheel drive, all-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and an electronic stability system with traction control. Get Ready for the Amazing Audi Q3!

April 11th, 2012

Guess where Audi’s headed next! India. That’s right, India! Audi is just steps away from claiming the luxury car market in this powerful country. Audi has been meticulously building its brand image for years, both through its cars as well as the overall Audi ownership experience. Audi wants to start ranking in high volume sales, and decided that the Q3 is the key to reaching this goal. The Q3 will be built in Audi’s Martorell plant in Spain with every feature you’d look for in a luxury SUV!

The front of the Q3 stuns with its LED fettled headlamps and Bulgarian beard grille with tapered edges. The rear has the signature Q series wrap around the tailgate with a highly raked roof design. As a result, this model has a very dynamic stance making it the most edgy looking Q yet!

The Q3 looks much like a hatch with high ground clearance at first glance. It is shorter than a Nissan Sunny and 6cm shorter than the X1. The interior however, is extremely spacious thanks to some clever engineering such as the transversely mounted engine. There’s a ton of space at the rear and a 460-litre boot that can be expanded up to 1365 liters by dropping the seats. The Q3’s interior is equipped with a fold out 6.5-inch screen, a Bose sound system, and a huge double panorama sunroof.

The Q3 currently gets the 2.0TDI diesel that makes 177PS and 380Nm. It hits the ton in 8.7 seconds and tops off at 211kmph.

Be on the lookout for this awesome Audi model. No doubt, it’s going to be a head turner!

The All-New 2012 Audi A7 – It’s In Its Own Class

February 27th, 2012

As CNET’s May 2011 Editors’ Choice, the all-new 2012 Audi A7 is definitely a crowd pleaser. It sets the new industry standard with its advanced tech features, and it perfectly balances luxurious driving with the excitement of sport capabilities.

Screeching off the block, this beauty has lines that will give people whiplash; your wife might even slap you for looking too hard. The Audi A7’s 4-door sedan-like passenger cabin is paired up nicely with its hatchback cargo area, much like the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide, but certainly without the negative comments both of these have gotten due to their bulky awkwardness. The car knows how to utilize its assets by having detachable rear deck panels, giving you a wide-open hatchback. Besides the improved 3-D grille design, as seen on the 2011 A8, and its redesigned, fierce-toned headlights, one of the best exterior improvements is the automatic rear spoiler that rises out of the hatchback as this baby takes off flying. It adds a nice touch of sportiness to its rear.

And if you’re already impressed with its exterior, just wait till you get inside; that’s where all the fun happens! To begin, we must start off with talking about the Audi’s flip-up navigation system. It leaves all other navigation systems feeling subpar, and with good reason! The A7 has harnessed the power of Google local search, Google satellite maps, and even Wikipedia descriptions to inform you about local landmarks. Now that’s one smart navigation system! Using T-Mobile, the car utilizes its own data pipe, just slip in the SIM card and you’re connected! You’ll be able to pick up live traffic, weather, gas prices, and news.

The Audi A7 also features the new MultiMedia Interface (MMI), as seen in the A8. It gives you the ability to dial numbers and trace letters, making calling or searching for a location a whole lot easier. And even if nobody else can read your bad handwriting, this touchpad will understand you better than most with its highly accurate translator! Don’t feel like manually searching or dialing? Not a problem. This Audi comes equipped with voice command that will let you access your contacts and Google local search!

Some nice additive features to the A7 are the Bang & Olufsen sound upgrade and the Audi Side Assist package. With the Bang & Olufsen add-on, sound quality is perfect and crisp, but the Bose basic package still brings its great reputation to the car’s 14 speakers if you want to save a little cash. The Audi Side Assist is a great safety feature that all cars should have standard! A set of LEDs in the side mirrors will illuminate when another car is in your blind-spot, helping reduce accidents to your ride.

When you look under the hood, don’t pout about this car’s V-6 engine! Audi has fitted this direct-injection 3-liter V-6 with a supercharger, allowing the A7 to have 310 ponies and 325 pound-feet of torque! It can get you from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds. The efficiency of this car, given its size, is pretty impressive, getting 18 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. Plus, the car’s performance is based much on your own preference, using Audi’s Drive Select system, which allows you to tune the steering and engine response to sport or comfort.

Overall, the all-new 2012 Audi A7 is completely unique, and its design fits drivers looking for a car to meet their sedan, hatchmack, coupe, tech savvy desires. It’s one of Audi’s groundbreaking vehicles, and deserves to be the leader in its sportback niche.

The Most Expensive Volkswagen Bus

February 27th, 2012

One lucky winner didn’t spend $217,800 on a new Ferrari or a Lamborghini at this year’s Barrett-Jackson auction. Not even close! He got something even better—a vintage 1963 Volkswagen 23-window Bus! What a steal!  In fact, this better-than-factory-bought, fully-restored VW broke the record for the most expensive VW microbus to ever be auctioned off.

But don’t think for a minute that restoring this Volkswagen was an easy feat. For David Nevarez, this project almost cost him his marriage; we bet she is biting her tongue now.

The Victorville couple received the VW bus from a family friend, Donny Damron, almost ten years ago. The bus was bought for $1200 by Damron from an Apple Valley mailman who used it on duty until the engine and interior caught on fire. The damage was extensive to say the least. Nevarez, a car painter, was given the bus by Damron because he always helped fix his vehicles. Damron also knew that he had a great enthusiasm for Volkswagen microbuses, and felt that he was the only person capable of resuscitating it.

The soon-to-be gem didn’t immediately begin its transformation; the bus actually didn’t get to see Nevarez’s healing hands for two years while it sat in his backyard. Over the course of about seven years, $30,000-$40,000 later, and his wife’s consistent complaints, Nevarez poured all of his passion and talent into the VW bus. And at the end, it was nothing short of perfect. The bus went on to be featured in magazines and won two awards at the Volkswagen Classic show.

Caught between wanting to keep the bus as his treasure, and selling it to pay off bills, Nevarez was wary about how much he’d actually receive if he did sell his Volkswagen bus. With only five days before the Barrett-Jackson show, he decided that he was going to bid goodbye to his bus, thanks to a little helpful persuasion from Damron.

On the day of the auction, Neverez was worried that the bus would be undervalued, especially because it didn’t have a minimum bid. As his wife watched anxiously from backstage, Damron was watching the auction at his home, while celebrating his daughter’s birthday. Damron bet his friends at home that the VW bus would sell for $160,000. As the number passed Nevarez’s $100,000 satisfaction mark, he felt satisfied. But the bids didn’t stop there. Damron remembers that everyone in his house screaming “Higher! Higher!” as the bids kept soaring.

When the final bid closed at $198,000, Nevarez jumped from his seat, screaming triumphantly. The buyer, a retired vintage car collector, ended paying $217,800 for the Volkswagen bus, including the 10% buyer fee.

Nevarez also got a little added bonus—respect from his wife. She apologized for having called it a piece of junk in their backyard. What will they do with all that money now? We place our bid on a second honeymoon.
